Longworth & District History Society
actively exploring the history of our parishes

Longworth Rose Volume One

'The Longworth Rose', first published in 1998, is the journal of Longworth and District History Society which serves the villages of Longworth, Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor and Hinton Waldrist.

It is a regular 12-page magazine (Jan / May / Sept), filled with items of local historical interest and is intended to become a place of safe keeping for interesting items of written and visual information about our district.

The well-illustrated journal includes historical records, memories of those who have lived in the area for some time and also accounts of everyday life both in the past and today.

A good place to see what information the Longworth Rose contains is to browse the Index which is a comprehensive list of all the items which have ever appeared in the magazine. To view the six-page Index or download and print the same, see menu above under 'Downloads' section.

Some 300 entries are listed, subdivided with useful subheads, for example; farming, buildings, maps, people’s names, wartime, crafts and industries. Each entry bktitle indicates the Longworth Rose issue and page number.

All earlier issues of the Longworth Rose are kept in print. You can purchase any back numbers of interest either at any history society hall meeting (£1 per issue) or alternatively you can buy direct on-line (see below) again at £1 per issue, plus a handling charge of £1.50 which covers free postage for an order of whatever size.

If you purchase please note that our publishers are Thematic Trails and you will be purchasing from them.
